THE GRAND HIKE is a continual build-up, dashing itself off only to rebuild itself again.
The moment I heard Polly Brown's "Up In A Puff Of Smoke," I knew that I had to use it somehow, but the first few attempts resulted in dull dead ends. It wasn't until I stumbled across the drum intro for "Be My Boogie Woogie Baby" that I knew exactly where to take it. The track proved to be remarkably to begin production on, but became an absolute breeze once the base was laid down.
THE GRAND HIKE had me experimenting with filtered delay, whilst also breaking out of the "verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus" pattern. To this day, it continues to be a personal favorite, and a piece that I can point to as an accomplishment.
